Base in Vinohrady or Malá Strana, not Old Town Square 24/7. Charles Bridge and the castle hill once, early. One Český Krumlov overnight on a weekday — fairy-tale walls as a compact small-town night.

Day-by-day itinerary

Eight days: Vinohrady base, one structured old-town day for the traditional checklist, Jewish Quarter history, then a mid-week Český Krumlov overnight. Pre-book Prague + Krumlov.

1. Day 1

   Land & settle Vinohrady

   Fly into PRG. Grab an eSIM at the airport or order ahead. Taxi/tram to your pre-booked Vinohrady hotel — same place all week except Krumlov. Late-afternoon walk: Jiřího z Poděbrad square, tree-lined streets, pick a pub for svíčková. No Old Town tonight.

   Pre-book: Full-week Prague hotel + Krumlov night (mid-week)

2. Day 2

   Castle & Charles Bridge — early

   Base: Prague — VinohradyTraditional checklist

   Up before 8. Tram to Malá Strana, cross Charles Bridge while it’s still quiet. Prague Castle circuit (St. Vitus exterior + Golden Lane if lines allow). Descend to Old Town Square for the astronomical clock — one pass, not a whole day living here. Lunch away from the square. Back to Vinohrady for dinner.

3. Day 3

   Jewish Quarter & river

   Base: Prague — VinohradyWhole crew

   Josefov synagogues / Old Jewish Cemetery — book a block of time, let everyone set the pace. Walk the embankment, pause at Lennon Wall if you want something lighter. Letná park beer garden views in afternoon if weather holds. Evening: Vinohrady or Karlín dinner.

4. Day 4

   Rest or Christmas market

   Base: Prague — VinohradyWhole crew

   Blank day by design. Sleep in, laundry, Vinohrady café. December: hit a market (Old Town or Náměstí Míru) in late afternoon when lights come on — in and out, not camped there. March: National Museum or Petřín tower if energy is good.

5. Day 5

   To Český Krumlov

   Morning RegioJet or FlixBus south (~3 hrs). Drop bags, walk the bend in the Vltava, castle tower views. The fairy-tale day everyone will photograph — a compact castle town, not a rushed day trip. Early dinner, quiet evening; cobbles beat clubs.

6. Day 6

   Krumlov morning, back to Prague

   Castle interior or raft on the river if weather cooperates. Afternoon bus back to Prague. Same Vinohrady hotel — you’re not packing every night. Easy dinner near the hotel.

   Buffer & favorites

   Whatever anyone missed: second café, Vyšehrad walls, Dancing House photo stop, or Kutná Hora bone church only if all three want the detour. Pack lightly for tomorrow.

   Airport tram or taxi. Buffer time — PRG security can spike on holiday weekends.

Real-world cost picture

December = famous Christmas markets. March = spring break shoulder. Still cheaper than Paris or Vienna if you skip Old Town traps — but Prague is not the dirt-cheap bargain it was a decade ago.

Classic central Europe on a Poland-tier budget — pre-book Prague + one Krumlov night; flights are the swing.
